PROS
+ Feels extremely well constructed, MUCH more so than my old mouse.
+ External materials don't attract grime and sweat; I had to clean my old mouse off on an almost weekly basis, but haven't had to do so with the G400s.
+ Good weight balance. Has some heft without being excessive.
+ Tracks well on my SteelSeries mousepad.
+ On-the-fly sensitivity adjustment (or 2 extra button functions) is always nice.
WASHES
= Mousewheel. Objectively, it's very responsive and has a great grip...but I actually prefer mousewheels with more float that don't "lock" into certain positions. I can't really fault the mouse itself for this though, and I'm sure I can adjust.
= Seems designed for smaller hands than mine. The DeathAdder's hand position felt naturally comfortable, but this has taken a little adjusting to.
CONS
- Small forward/back buttons compared to the DeathAdder, and at a slightly awkward position.
- The cable, as so many others have said. It can't be compared to my old, braided cable for even a moment.
- Mouse drivers seem excessively large.
OVERALL: I've sworn by Razer for many years, but I'm very glad I changed to the G400s instead this time around. The complaints I have are minor and/or features I am still adjusting to, and I haven't run into any glaring defects worth docking a star over. This definitely feels and looks like a mouse which will last for 20 million clicks...and it'll be a lot of fun getting there!
Well look at me now, Ma!
I loved this mouse from the moment I started using it (and after carefully and patiently explaining to my wife why $60 is a totally reasonable amount to pay for a mouse (the price I paid some months back)). It's exceptionally responsive and ergonomically fits my hands pretty much perfectly. A note that I don't have particularly large hands, so some bigger sausage fingered types my have problems. I personally use a kinda of a half claw half palm grip on my mouse and that suits the G400 well. My only initial gripe (aside from the panic at buying a more expensive than usual mouse with a mixture of guilt, hubris, and misplaced regret) was that there is a ridge on the right side of the mouse which was an initial discomfort to my pinky, but my natural grip has since moved to accommodate this.
The extra buttons on the mouse at all decently located and the clicking noise of each not overly loud or annoying (though noticeable). My only minor fault is that the mouse wheels is smooth, rather than grooved, and as a result, with my sweaty hands in the New York summer, it can something slide under my finger when back scrolling. Not a huge problem for the less moist of us.
I quite like the Logitech gaming software that is used to assign keys and whatnot to the G400 - it's pretty straightforward and simple to use and suits all my purposes.
All in all, very happy indeed with the G400 amd would definitely buy another!
Also, I got to legitimately use the word "moist" in an Amazon review.
Pros:
The new one has a much higher DPI that is not as useful as thought. Since I do computer graphics for a living, I thought this maybe useful. The old MX518 had a lower native DPI and it seemed always a bit low. Since I have a 2560x1600 monitor, it takes a lot of DPI if you want to move across the screen without lifting the mouse. It turns out that for 4000 DPI is not useful, though it may come in handy for 4k monitors. In the supplied software you can setup as many as 5 sensitivities. I use 4, from 500 DPI for accurate painting in Photoshop, to 2800 DPI for general computer use if I want to move from side to side of the screen in a few inches. It does all very well. The pads are also very slick, but as someone mentioned, you have to cut holes into them if you want to take the mouse apart for cleaning. The mouse cursor has absolutely no overshoot even when sliding across the screen at high speed and always returns to the same exact spot, assuming cursor acceleration has been switched off.
Cons:
The scroll wheel is absolutely terrible. This is why the review is only 4 stars. It felt scratchy and stiff, like there was fine sand in the gear. I waited a few months before deciding to taking it apart to break it in and it has improved some. The other issue is that depending on the angle of my finger, if it is right on top, then the scrolling feels even worse. And as mentioned I will have to cut small holes in the pads to access the screws. Maybe it is one way for Logitech to see if the mouse has been taken apart. My plan is to see what's wrong and maybe switch scroll wheels from the older one, if that's possible.

Amazon delivered on time, the only thing is the outer packet of this product was really dusty and dirty - like really dusty as if it were seating in a warehouse for like an year or something, I wish they had cleaned it before packing. But the inside as it should be.
The software is very usable and lean (unlike SetPoint for their non-gaming accessories—that software is a flaming pile of ... um... you get the picture). It has a bunch of presets for various games, including pre-configured commands that are unused but can be assigned to buttons.
The DPI buttons are really in FPS games, where you might want a higher DPI for precision aiming, as well as MOBAs (and I guess RTSes) to switch between sweeping mouse movements and more intricately aimed manoeuvres. I usually only set up 2 DPI levels for games.
The silicon pads on the bottom seem to pick up a lot of dust at its edges. I get to pick out many dust bunnies out of those every week or so.
